A practical AEO checklist for creating direct, useful answers without sacrificing depth, trust, or human readability.
Start with real audience questions
AEO begins with questions customers genuinely ask during research, evaluation, purchase, and support. Use customer conversations, search data, community discussions, and internal subject-matter experts to find them.
Group questions by intent and journey stage instead of publishing a disconnected page for every wording variation.
Answer first, then expand
Place a clear response immediately after a question-led heading. Follow it with context, steps, examples, exceptions, or evidence. This format helps hurried readers while preserving the depth needed for trust.
Do not force every answer into an arbitrary word count. Use the shortest response that remains accurate.
Make claims verifiable
Add authorship, update dates, primary-source citations, and transparent methodology where they matter. Regulated or high-stakes topics require especially careful review.
Structured data must match the visible page. Markup cannot make weak or hidden content authoritative.
Technical AEO checks
Confirm that important answers are rendered in crawlable HTML, headings follow a logical hierarchy, canonical URLs are correct, internal links are descriptive, and pages load efficiently on mobile devices.
Use FAQ structured data selectively and follow current search-engine eligibility rules. It is a machine-readable description, not a guaranteed rich result.
Maintain the answer library
Assign owners to important resources, review time-sensitive claims, consolidate overlapping pages, and redirect outdated URLs. A smaller accurate library is more valuable than a large neglected one.
Turn the strategy into a repeatable workflow.
